Russian troops have entered Kharkiv while the battle for Kyiv continues

Russian troops entered Ukraine’s second-largest city of Kharkiv early on Sunday morning following a night of heavy artillery bombardments on the northern fringes of the city.

On Sunday Russian missiles also hit the town of Vasylkiv southwest of the capital, Kyiv, setting an oil terminal ablaze.

However, Russian troops have so far failed to enter Kyiv as Ukrainians defended the capital city.

On Saturday Britain pledged to continue to supply arms to Ukraine’s embattled military as the fighting with Russian forces reached the outskirts of the capital, Kyiv, on Saturday.

The UK’s armed forces minister, James Heappey, said Russian troops had not made the progress they might have hoped, with the main armoured columns still some way from the city.
